Obituary for Walter Brolewicz

 

Walter Brolewicz, 95, passed away at home on June 3, 2022 surrounded by his beloved immediate family.

Walter was born on December 6, 1926 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He honorably served the US Army during World War II in Japan. He married his late wife Florence on April 17, 1948 and settled in Passaic, New Jersey where they lovingly raised their 3 children. They celebrated 70 years of marriage until her death in 2018.

Walter attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for Western Electric and AT&T as a senior planning engineer for 40 years until his retirement. He was responsible for the development and application of AC and DC power distribution standards and his work was published in the Western Electric Engineer.   

 Walter had a passion for classical music often attending concerts. He was an avid reader who enjoyed all types of books especially history. He was very handy and took pride in helping his family fix things around the house.   

 Walter also traveled to Poland visiting with family. In particular, his trips to visit his cousin Lech Walesa who started the Solidarity Movement. While Lech was in the United States, Walter was an interpreter and met with President Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Pope John Paul II. Walter later wrote a book chronicling his experiences on his trips to Poland which can be found in the Library of Congress.

Walter is survived by his children, Edward Brolewicz and his wife Bernadette, Kenneth Brolewicz and his wife Patricia, and Arlene Pfleger and her husband Walter; his grandchildren Sandra, Diane, Jennie, Justine, Lauren, and Michelle; and his great grandchildren Samantha and Julia.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday June 7th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford.

Funeral will be on Wednesday 9:00am gathering in funeral home followed by a 10:00am Mass in the Church of Saint Mary, 91 Home Avenue, Rutherford.

Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, No. Arlington, NJ
