Walter Roger Pickwoad Sr., of Rutherford, NJ passed away on Friday November 20, 2020 after reaching the age of 90 years old. Walter was born in January of 1930 in Ridgefield Park, NJ to Grace V. Pickwoad (Baker) and Walter C.D. Pickwoad.
As a boy he lived in Ridgefield Park, NJ. In 1947 he joined the US Marine Corps where he served in the Field Artillery division until 1952. After he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, he became a Machinist at Precision Tool in Moonachie where he later retired from.
Walter married his wife Helen J. Pickwoad (Cole) at Grace Episcopal Church in Rutherford, NJ on September 2, 1950. They were happily married for over 70 years together. They lived in Rutherford, NJ where they raised their children and spent many years with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Walter was an avid craftsman/wood worker throughout the years. He had volunteered years of his time to be a part of the Rutherford Farm League and enjoyed coaching baseball. He also enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, bowling and took pride in teaching his great-granddaughter how to play dominoes.
Walter was also a huge part of Grace Episcopal Church in Rutherford, NJ. He worked tirelessly to help in renovating the parish hall with his natural skills and tendency to always double check everything they did to make sure everything was done properly. He also spent many hours refacing the fireplaces in the rectory with ceramic tiles and countless hours fixing the walls and painting. In addition, he was always available to help set up the various church dinners that were had throughout the years. He was a very dependable asset to Grace Church and everyone’s friend.
He was a great father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them, and a loving Grampy to his 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Walter was a man that always cared about others. He would go out of his way to make sure everyone was happy. Even in his years as he was getting older, he tried to make sure that his wife would be taken care of. Walter was a rock in his family and is loved and will be missed by many.
He is predeceased by his parents Grace V. Pickwoad (Baker) and Walter C.D. Pickwoad, his brother Arthur M. Pickwoad, his sister Alice M. Pickwoad, his brother Clyde D. Pickwoad, and brother Wayne L. Pickwoad.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Helen J. Pickwoad (Cole) of Rutherford, NJ, son Walter R. Pickwoad and wife Jude Moscatello, daughter Wendy Lemaire (Pickwoad), daughter Cindy Pickwoad, son Richard Pickwoad and wife Renee Pickwoad (Shefsky), his grandchildren, Joseph Nicolosi, Kelly Nicolosi, Meghan Marmora (Dozier), John Dozier, Haley Pickwoad, Shayna Pickwoad, Matthew Pickwoad and Grace Pickwoad, and his great-grandchildren, Flavio Barrios, Celia Nicolosi, Jesse Nicolosi, Max Nicolosi, and Kaitlyn Nicolosi, as well as future great grandson Theodore Nicolosi, his brother Raymond R. Pickwoad as well as many nieces, a nephew and extended family.
Family will receive friends Monday, November 30, 2020 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave, Rutherford, NJ 07070.
