Jean Westervelt, formerly of Rutherford.

"A little bit of this, a little bit of that." Jean Westervelt, née Cielukowski, famed for her home cooking and imprecise recipes, died peacefully at home on May 22, 2020.

Although her family will remember "Grandma's" spaghetti & meatballs and chicken cacciatore, and her love/hate relationship with "All My Children," she will be remembered most as a loving, caring, and strong woman.

After her husband, Fran, passed in 2000, she soldiered on. She stayed on Earth long enough to see each of her nine grandchildren grow up to become successful adults and was here for the birth of her first great-grandchild.

And she was hip. Jean got a smartphone, wasn't afraid of a computer, and played games on her iPad. She would go to Atlantic City and spin the penny slots while sipping a White Russian -- a "weak" White Russian, she'd correct. Jean recently went on a hot-air balloon ride thanks to the help of virtual reality goggles.

Her children will remember her waking them up just before midnight, ushering them out into the cold to bang pots & pans and ring in the New Year. In her later years, they'll remember her sitting on the couch watching golf on Sunday afternoons, and her trips to spend time with her sister Mary in Sarasota. Her grandchildren will think of her every time they use the Afghans that she crocheted. They will never forget her; she was the best and most generous grandma that a kid could ever ask for.

In her passing, Jean re-joins Fran, her sister Irene, and her brothers Matty & Eddie. She is survived, and will be missed dearly, by her sister Mary; her children and their spouses: Mark, Matthew & Susan, Janet & David, and Jean; her grandchildren: Michael, Andrea, David, Jenna, Matthew, Bryan, Kacey, Marky, and Dana; and her great-grandchild, Emma.

Mom... Grandma... We love you and will keep you in our hearts forever. Thank you for sharing your love with us for so many wonderful years.
