John Gerard Huffman 68, of Rutherford passed on June 17, 2010 in Hackensack, NJ.
Born in Newark, NJ on July 11, 1941, son of George and Ann Huffman.
He graduated from the Rutherford school system in 1959, served as the first president of the Rutherford Ambulance Corps. Youth Squad, worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone before joining his brother Skip in the Rutherford based business of Brand Auto Parts. John then moved on to work as an accountant before a long and distinguished career with the American Red Cross in which he served in Essex County, NJ, Union City, NJ, Little Rock, AR, and Rutherford, NJ.
John then ventured into business with his son as the owner of Bergen Coin Exchange until his retirement.
John served on the Rutherford Board of Education as a member and past president, the Rutherford Elks where he was a 34 year member and served as Exalted Ruler, Trustee, and Special Children Committee Chairman. John also served for several years as the Treasurer of the NJ State Elks Special Children Committee, member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Order of Founders & Patriots of America.
John is survived by his wife of 40 years Suzanne, their children Tom and Tracey, sister Lennoe and brother Skip.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday June 27, 2010 from 1-4 PM at the Rutherford Elks at 48 Ames Ave Rutherford, NJ.
