Phyllis S. Manion, 72, a resident of Bloomfield, NJ passed into Eternal Rest on Saturday, February 15, 2020. She leaves her husband of 51 years, Dennis M. Manion. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on June 8, 2019. Born to Martin and Rose Napolitano, she was raised in Scranton, PA, and graduated from West Scranton Senior High School. Phyllis went on to work for Tobyhanna Army Depot, where she met Dennis Manion and on June 8, 1968 they were married. In that same year she moved to Lyndhurst, NJ, and in 1973 she settled in Rutherford where she raised her four children for 24 years.

She was a devoted wife and mother. Besides spending time with her family and friends, Phyllis had a passion for volunteering and she was an integral part of the Community. She spent many years helping at Rutherford Public Schools and various town events. She taught CCD at St. Mary’s Church, where due to her dedication and devotion she was awarded Catechist of the Year. She was involved with multiple charitable organizations to include United Cerebral Palsy, and Feed The Children, in which she tirelessly collected supplies to be sent overseas for children in need. In 2008 she moved to Bloomfield, NJ, and became a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Her work accomplishments were many and she spent over twenty years with the IT/ Help Desk at The Record Newspaper. Phyllis was blessed with an abundance of grace and talent, as she was highly creative and artistic. She enjoyed painting, music, playing the piano, sewing, traveling, cooking and entertaining, and she had a deep love of children and animals.

She lived a selfless, robust, generous life that we are so very proud of. Phyllis’s beaming personality and contagious smile were truly an inspiration, and her bright light touched the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Dennis of Bloomfield, NJ; sister Tina Marino and husband Michael of Scranton, PA; three children Dennis Manion Jr., Kimberly Manion and her husband Phil Cirincione, and her daughter Nicole Manion; one grandchild, Eric Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Tiffany Manion, and parents Martin and Rose Napolitano.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 24, 2020 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church in Rutherford, NJ by Father Michael Kreder, and Deacon Brian Murphy. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington. Viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday, February 23, from 2 to 6 pm at Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to: United Cerebral Palsy 1825 K Street NW Suite 600 Washington, DC 20006.

I love you Mom forever and always. You were always so loving, caring, and generous. You are irreplaceable and my heart is broken. I will never forget you and my life will never be the same. You were a shining light in my life and were always there to cheer me up when I was down and encourage me to be the best I could be. You were my biggest cheerleader and friend. Whenever I needed your help, whether it was driving me to school when I was young, taking me to swimming practice when I was in high school, or to the hospital for various surgeries when I was an adult you always helped me. You supported me in everything and were happiest when the family was happy, putting yourself last. It was an honor taking care of you the last two years and would have done it the rest of my life. I've lost the closest person to me and will miss you forever. May you be in God's care for eternity where I hope we meet again someday. I'll never stop loving you mom.

Love Dennis, your son forever and always. XOXO

My deepest condolences to the Manion family. I truly know how you all are feeling at this most unfortunate, untimely event in your lives. I too, have faced the same at one point and time in my life, losing a mother that I loved dearly. Does the pain ever go away, absolutely not, but it does get more bearable with time. The void that is left will slowly diminish with thoughts of the love and good times you all have shared, Dennis: having worked with and sat beside you for so many years, I know how much you loved, respected and adored your mom. Reading your post made me "misty" eyed because you have told me so many of these same things about your mom over the years. Please take a little comfort in knowing, that she is no longer "suffering" and is at eternal peace. The kind of person your mom was clearly speaks for itself and to all that met and loved her. May God continue to keep and protect you and your family at this time of grieving. As I previously stated to you, although, I may not make your mom's service I will be there in spirit and will continue to lift your family up in prayer. regards, Mary McMillan, ex-coworker
